A massive forest fire burned for five days inside the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located at 3,500 metres in the Himalayas.With no winter snowfall or rainfall, dry conditions allowed the fire to spread rapidly, destroying medicinal plants and fragile forest ecosystems. The Indian Air Force deployed a helicopter to carry out water drops, finally controlling the fire on the sixth day.
