All white people aren’t the same tribe. All Native peoples aren’t the same tribe. So why would all Black people be? The truth is, the Africans taken as slaves across the Atlantic weren’t all the same nation — many were Israelites who had fled from Jerusalem after the Roman siege in 70 A.D. and migrated into North and West Africa. They passed through the Sahara, settled among African nations, and built powerful empires like Songhai, Mali, and the Gold Coast (modern-day Ghana) — centers of trade,
